The Seton Hall Softball team (29-12, 12-3 CONF) took on the DePaul Blue Demons (12-24, 4-11 CONF) in a three-game series this past weekend.

Seton Hall came out firing to start off the first game, and it all started in the top of the second with an Olivia Gilbert single to left field which Miranda Arruda was able to score the first run of the game for the Pirates.

They got two more runs in that inning to stretch their lead at 3-0. But Anna Wohlers of the Blue Demons was not going to go down without a fight, as she was able to get DePaul on the board with a homerun in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1.

From then on, the Pirates kept it going on offense bringing in six more runs by the end of the game.

The star of the show was Kelsey Carr, who got it done on the mound and at the plate. Carr totaled seven strikeouts while also going 2-4 at the plate. She was able to go the whole game on the mound for the Pirates and lead them to a very commanding first win of this BIG EAST series.

In the second game of this series, the Pirates took the win with a 9-4 win in another complete game out of the bullpen from Shelby Smith. Smith totaled 135 pitches with four strikeouts and only allowing four runs.

At the plate, Smith started the Pirates off in the top of the first with the first hit of the game going for a two-run homerun. Seton Hall went scoreless for three innings, but in the last two, they were able to rack up six more runs putting the score at 9-3.

Going into the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Demons were looking to make a comeback as they got an RBI to decrease the lead to five. With runners on first and third, the Pirates were able to close out the inning to seal the second win of the series for Seton Hall.

In the final game of this series, Seton Hall got off to a demanding start in the second inning where they totaled six hits with seven runs to start the scoring, with the highlight of this being a Kelsey Carr grand slam.

This was truly an offensive game that was a constant nail-biter where the Blue Demons kept it close throughout, scoring six runs in the third and fourth inning to keep it a one-run game up until that point.

By the sixth inning, the Pirates were up five runs as it looked like they were taking the win. In the last two innings, DePaul made the game interesting as they were able to close the gap, but it just wasn’t enough as the Pirates won 13-11.

Seton Hall took this series 3-0 as they will now look to take on Marist on April 18 in Poughkeepsie, NY.
