On Saturday, the Seton Hall women’s volleyball team (13-16, 5-10 conference) pulled off an upset of UConn (20-8 overall, 12-4) at home on Senior Night in four sets.

At the beginning of the first set, both UConn and the Pirates took time in developing an attack, and up until point seven, both teams quickly responded, keeping the match tied. Several service errors passed until the Pirates started challenging the offense on the left side via Tsvetelina Ilieva.

Caylee Parker started to capitalize right back, which brought the result to a one-point advantage for the Huskies. After a timeout, Allie Garland helped the Huskies reach 22, but Emilee Turner came back with a kill of her own, bringing the set at to 24 apiece. She later brought the set to a close, with the score in favor Seton Hall, 26-24.

Perri Lucas opened the second set with a big-time kill, and soon, the Pirates led 5-1, a good sign on such a significant night. UConn eventually caught up through up to only an 8-7, one point away from taking control.

The visiting side managed to keep the score tight, and after some post-timeout frenzied action, the Huskies started experimenting with Garland at the right, eventually giving UConn the set by a score of 25-22.

In the third set, Seton Hall kept a consistent two-point lead for the first half of the set, just as they had before. Eventually, the Pirates defense was able to receive and deflect spikes, and in no-time, they jumped up to a seven-point lead, bringing the score to 20-13, and the crowds went wild.

Amanda Rachwal took control of the offense, and Kennadie Jake-Turner spiked to make the score 24-23, Seton Hall. Soon enough, she missed the next spike, and the Pirates took the third set, 25-23.

The first minute of the fourth set saw Seton Hall skyrocket to an 4-1 advantage. Wilnir Louis, who is calling the game on wsou.net, described the Pirates as a team that was "on the gas pedal." However, the Huskies did regain some ground early on.

This was a night to remember, and the score was 22-22, with fans in seats excited as ever as the upset got closer. In just a few moments, an out-of-bounds mistake from UConn made the set 25-23, and secured a victory for Seton Hall on Senior Night.

Next up for the Pirates is a match on the road against St. John’s on Nov. 14 starting 4 p.m. Be sure to look out for the recap here on wsou.net!
