The Pirates are on the road this weekend as they take on the Villanova Wildcats and the Georgetown Hoyas. On Friday night, Seton Hall lost in four sets to the Wildcats 3-1, with three Pirates each collecting nine kills.

Going into the match on Friday, Villanova owned a 31-17 all-time series lead over Seton Hall. When these two teams played during the shortened season in the spring, they split a pair of five-set matches.

Senior Madison Frusha, sophomore Perri Lucas, and freshman Jenna Walsh all had nine kills, combining for 27 total kills and only six attack errors. Frusha not only collected nine kills but had only one attack error and a team-best .533 attack percentage. Sophomore Taylor Jakubowski recorded 22 assists and seven digs while junior Raygan Murray had a team-best 14 digs.

The first set of the match consisted of a lot of back-and-forth action featuring seven ties and three lead changes. Villanova had a .286 attack percentage while the Pirates recorded a .280 attack percentage. While trailing 19-15, Seton Hall scored five of the next six points to tie the score at 20. The Wildcats then scored five of the next seven points to secure a 25-22 first set victory.

The Pirates regrouped in the second set and started it off with a 12-2 scoring run. Villanova was able to go on a run of their own going 9-2, but the Pirates came back by scoring six of the next seven points to bring it back to 20-13. The Wildcats went on another run to cut the deficit to 23-19. A kill by Lucas put Seton Hall in set point and then a service error gave the Pirates a 25-21 victory.

Similar to the Pirates in the second set, the Wildcats took a 12-8 lead and never trailed again in that set. Both squads traded scoring runs until it was 24-17. The Pirates got three more points to cut their deficit to four and forced a Villanova timeout. Coming out of the break, the Wildcats got the point they needed for a third set victory.

While trailing in set number four by a score of 5-3, Villanova went on a 6-2 run to take a 9-7 lead. Seton Hall bounced back with four straight, but then the Wildcats responded with a 6-1 run. Down by four, the Pirates went on a run to tie the score at 23. Villanova was able to recover and scored the final two points to win the set and the match.

With her six kills last night, Emilee Turner has surpassed the 400-kill milestone mark for her collegiate career. Seton Hall returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. when they continue their road trip and take on the Georgetown Hoyas.
