The Seton Hall Pirates Men’s Soccer team notched a dominant win over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Wednesday night at home, by a score of 2-0. The Pirates came into the game with a 1-0-1 record, coming off a home win against La Salle 1-0.

Seton Hall took the lead in the first half of the match off a goal by forward C.J. Tibbling in the 23rd minute of the match. The goal was assisted by forward J.P. Marin. The goal by Tibbling was his second of the young season. The Pirates then added to the lead shortly after, when defender Luca Dahn scored a goal with another slick assist by Marin in the 36th minute of the match. With the two assists in the game, Marin has matched his point total for both his 2018 and 2019 seasons with Seton Hall in just two games played into the 2021 season.

The Pirates dominated the match over the Knights, leading in shots 11-4, as well as shots on goal 4-1. The goalkeepers for Seton Hall faced minimal action, as the Pirates’ defense kept Fairleigh Dickinson in check. Seton Hall went with two goaltenders in the match, Hannes Ronnholmen started the first half, and faced three shots, one of which being the lone shot on goal for the Knights which he saved. Andreas Nota was subbed in the second half and faced one shot.

Despite the stellar play from the Hall, they could not escape the wrath of the refs, as they tacked on two yellow cards, one to midfielder Mattias Sundell, and the other to midfielder Ian Albuquerque, both of which came off the bench as substitutes. Fairleigh Dickinson did lead the Pirates in fouls 10-7.

The Pirates move to 2-0-1 on the season with the win, both wins coming at their home field. The Knights fell to 0-2-0 on the year. Looking ahead, the Pirates will be opening Big East conference play this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when they take on St. John’s, at home at Owen T. Carroll field in South Orange, N.J. The matchup will be interesting, as the Red Storm have opened the season 2-0-0 with wins over Saint Joseph’s and Stony Brook University.
