The Seton Hall Pirates looked to break a 12-game losing streak against the University of Connecticut Huskies in the all-time series against their Big East rival. The Pirates (6-5, 1-2 conference) entered Thursday afternoon set to play their first Big East opponent at home. This came after they dropped their previous game to the Butler Bulldogs, 3-1, in a tough road loss in Indianapolis.
New York native Julia Aronov drilled her fourth goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Seton Hall women's soccer team fell to the Connecticut Huskies, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J.
To open up the scoring, the Huskies got on the board first with a short goal from Jaydah Bedoyah in the 21st minute. This came right after Grace Gordon made an impressive save but could not keep the game scoreless with a goal allowed to Bedoyah, which was assisted by Halle Palmedo.
Nursing an injury for the past three games, Aronov tied it up moments after halftime in the 47th minute. The freshman from England, Cara Milne-Redhead (who has led the Pirates with four shots total), sent the ball into the teeth of the defense where it bounced and found freshman Sophie Liston. Liston corralled it and tapped it back to Aronov who finished with a goal to tie it. Liston now leads the team with five assists this season for the Pirates.

After the Huskies struck first in the 21st minute, senior Emma Ramsay was fouled in the box in the 29th minute and was granted a penalty kick. Milne-Redhead stepped up to the spot and delivered a low strike to the left corner, but goalie Kaitlyn Mahoney thought otherwise. She did not allow Ramsay to tie the game and it proved to be the difference.
With the game knotted at one a piece with the game winding down, UConn’s Sophie McCarthy was able to score a late game goal past Gordon in the 86th minute and it proved to be the game-winning tally. The goal was assisted by Joyce Rider and Duda Santin.
