The Seton Hall women’s basketball team (8-8, 3-5 conference) will look to bounce back from a 71-38 loss at the hands of the UConn Huskies on Friday when they will go on the road to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles (13-5, 6-3 conference) at 8 p.m.

Prior to the UConn loss, the Lady Pirates were rolling, going 2-0 against Providence and St. John’s. Standout junior Lauren Park Lane averaged 30.5 points while shooting a scorching 44% from the three-point line.

The Golden Eagles are coming off two convincing wins against Providence and Butler in which they held both opponents under 50 points. They are also the top defensive team in the Big East, holding teams to a league low 54.7 points-per-game.

Leading the charge for Marquette are fifth year senior’s Lauren Van Kleunen and Karissa McLaughlin, averaging 13.8 and 13.3 points-per-game, respectively. The Pirates will have their hands full trying to contain this duo on offense while trying to muster up some offense of their own against this stifling defense.

This matchup is nothing new for both teams, as they have matched up a total of 26 times with Marquette leading the matchup, 16-10. Seton Hall won the first matchup between these two on Dec. 19, 2021, and the final score of that game was 69-57.

The dynamic duo of Seton Hall, Lauren Park-Lane and Andra Espinoza-Hunter, had stellar games with Park-Lane going for a season-high (at the time) 25 points to go along with eight assists, while Espinoza-Hunter did a little of everything with 16 points and seven rebounds to go along with four assists and two blocks.

Marquette will look to come out of the gate fast and put major pressure on Seton Hall, as they will to try to force turnovers and bad shots, which cost the Lady Pirates the game against UConn, as they committed 14 turnovers and shot 26.4% from the field.

Seton Hall will have something to say about this, as they look to avoid losing back-to-back games and get back to their winning ways. This will be a defensive grudge match between familiar foes that you do not want to miss, so clear your schedule and tune in to 89.5 FM WSOU and on wsou.net, with the illustrious Heaven Hill and Jorie Mickens on the call.
