The Seton Hall Pirates (5-7-2, 1-5-0 Conf.) lost 3-0 to the Georgetown Hoyas (9-1-4, 5-0-1 Conf.) in a Big East conference women’s soccer matchup on Sunday. It was the Pirates fourth Big East loss this season as they sit at 10th in the standings with just three points.

The Pirates were coming into this matchup after picking up their first conference win over Marquette. They were not as lucky against the Hoyas who came into this game as the No. 11 ranked team in the country with a perfect conference record.

Senior midfielder Julia Leas got it started for the Hoyas scoring her second goal of the year off an assist by Maya Alcantara in the 11th minute.

Georgetown would quickly extend their lead five minutes later, this time off the foot of Gia Vicari. It was the senior forward’s fifth goal of the season thanks to an assist by Tatum Lenain.

The score would stay at 2-0 until the 31st minute, when a couple fouls by Seton Hall gave Georgetown a great opportunity to score. Emma Davis did just that off an assist by Maya Powell-Fernandez. It was Davis’s second goal of the season and extended the lead to 3-0.

Natalie Tavana gave the Pirates their best shot at a first half goal in the 42nd minute, but a nice save by Allie Augur kept the score at 3-0.

At the end of the first period, Seton Hall had just two shots compared to Georgetown’s 17, with nine of them being on goal. Senior Pirates goalie Grace Gordan had six saves in the first period.

Seton Hall had some more chances in the second half to try and get back into the match. Julia Aronov had a shot off some nice passing but missed it just out right.

The Pirate’s defense was much better in the second half as well, allowing just four shots on goal and eleven shots total.

A foul on Chiara Pucci awarded Georgetown a penalty kick and threated to extend the lead to four. Erika Harwood lined up for the shot, but Grace Gordon read it beautifully and saved it on the bottom right corner of the net.

While the Pirates played hard, the nationally ranked Hoyas were just too much to handle with the final score sitting at 3-0. Tavana lead Seton Hall with three shots and Grace Gordon finished with nine saves.

The Pirates will rest up as they head back home to face the Creighton Blue Jays (7-2-5, 3-2-1 Conf.) on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.

WSOU Sports will have coverage of that whole matchup and the rest of the 2022 Seton Hall Pirates Women Soccer season on WSOU.net.
