The Seton Hall Pirates (2-1-2) had a hard-fought battle against the Lafayette Leopards (1-4-1) in Easton, PA, but fell 1-0 to suffer their first road loss of the season.

The Pirates did everything they could to try and record their third victory as they outshot the Leopards 12-5 but just were not able to find the net.

They had eight off-goal shots while Lafayette’s pair of goalkeepers in junior Lindsay Dewar and senior Natalie Neumann each had two saves to keep the Hall off the board.

The first half ended in a scoreless draw, but was action-packed with eight shots and seven fouls between the two teams. Seton Hall had six shots, two shots on goal, and three fouls in the first half while Lafayette had two shots, one shot on goal, and four fouls in the half.

In the second half, Lafayette forward Sara Oswald was able to get one of just three shots taken by the Leopards in the half past sophomore goalkeeper Anna Prawer in the 55th minute for the first and only goal of the game.

The Pirates could not find the net with any of their six shots taken in the second half, and struggled early as they did not get their first shot off until about 20 minutes in.

The Hall also added three more fouls to their total in the second half to ultimately finish with six fouls over Lafayette’s five fouls, as the Leopards only had one in the entire second half.

The only yellow card of the game was assessed to Seton Hall defender Maddy DeCola in the second half.

Despite the heartbreaking road loss to a team with just one win prior, a number of Pirates performed well in the contest.

Freshman forward Emma Sheehan recorded four shots with one of them being on goal. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Tavana put up three shots, while Prawer saved 3-5 shots taken by Lafayette, including two saves just 15 seconds apart from each other.

The Pirates will head to New Rochelle, NY to face Iona (5-0-2) this Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1:00 p.m. in hopes of rebounding, recording a win, and avoiding back-to-back losses away from Owen T. Carroll Field.
