One Giant Question 10/25: How Will Injuries Affect the Team Going Forward?

Thank God that one is over.

The Giants move to 6-1 after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-17 and the fourth quarter Giants strike again.

New York scored on the opening drive with a 32-yard shot to Darius Slayton from Daniel Jones, but the offense fell flat for much of the second and third quarters.

It didn’t help that three rookies, Evan Neal, Daniel Bellinger, and Wan’Dale Robinson all got hurt at some point in the game.

The early reports for Neal are MCL related, which would be brutal for the o-line. Bellinger got a nasty eye poke, but hopefully it doesn’t keep him out for long.

The Giants opened the fourth quarter with Barkley and Jones running all over the Jags defense. They both finished the game with 100+ yards, and Jones snuck it in from a yard out.

On their next drive, they drove down and kicked a field goal to make it a six-point game.

I don’t really care what the refs say, Saquon was not out of bounds. The clock should have ran down to 26 seconds. Ref ball nearly ruined this game because those two penalties on that last drive were horrendous.

Rookie safety Dane Belton barely touched the facemask of some Jaguars receiver and got called for “hands to the face.” That play negated a would-be game winning interception from Fabian Moreau.

The worst call happened a little bit later. Leonard Williams hit Jaguar’s QB Trevor Lawrence a half second after he threw the ball and got called for roughing the passer. That was the weakest foul I’ve ever seen. Pathetic.

It moved the Jags from their 40 to the Giants 25 or something like that. Refs must’ve had money on Trevor Lawrence.

Thankfully, Xavier McKinny and Fabian Moreau stopped Christian Kirk on the 1-yard line and ended the game.

The pass rush was inconsistent for a lot of the game, but Kayvon and Dexter Lawrence have been great so far through seven weeks. Shoutout Fabian Moreau – he balled out today.

So, the Giants are off to their best start since 2008, when a receiver had an “incident” in the locker room and kinda messed up the season.

They play the Seahawks and the Lions next, so things are looking up.

But I am worried that Neal and Bellinger’s injuries could be serious. Bellinger might be ok, but if Neal’s injury turns into something more major, an already thin offensive line would get even thinner.

Also, the existing injuries to the receiving core are proving to be a problem. The Giants had plenty of drops today, including a horrible drop by Marcus Johnson on a fourth-and-short within the Jaguars five-yard line.

No idea when Toney or, and I know how we feel about him, Golladay will be healthy again. Azeez Ojulari being on IR doesn’t help either.

But that’s enough negativity. The G-Men are 6-1 and Daniel Jones is the Goat.
