Date: September 23, 2017

By: Matthew Mlodzinski

Friday night’s match against Marquette did not turn out in the favor of the Pirates. Abby Thelen and Dominque Mason combined for 20 total kills, but that wasn’t enough to put the Pirates on top, as they fell to the Golden Eagles in three sets.

Also playing well for the Hall were Sophia Coffey, who had a double-double in assists and digs, and Sharay Barnes, with 7 kills to her name.

Marquette started off the first set on a 6-2 run, and never looked back, winning 25-20.
The Pirates did fight very hard, keeping the score close at 11-8, but would not be able to take control, never getting within less than 4 for the remainder of the match.

Seton Hall started off strong in the following set, but couldn’t hold on, losing 25-20
again. The Pirates jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, and kept it close for the remainder of the set, trailing 22-20. The Golden Eagles however, were able to close it out, with three straight points for the victory.

The third and final set was mostly all Marquette, who won 25-19. The Golden Eagles
opened on an 8-3 run, and didn’t really look back. The Pirates did get it down to a one point contest, with the score at 19-18 in Marquette’s favor, but the Golden Eagles rallied together to close out the game on a 6-1 run.

The Pirates will be in action next as they travel to Chicago to take on DePaul on Saturday
at 7 p.m.
