The Seton Hall women’s basketball team (10-5 Overall, 2-2 Conf.) will look to keep their undefeated home streak alive when they welcome the Providence Friars (10-7 Overall, 2-3 Conf.) into Walsh Gymnasium.

Seton Hall is coming back from a big win against the Creighton Bluejays, a matchup that they won 82-75. Leading the team in scoring in the matchup was Shadeen Samuels, who had 32 points on 13-23 shooting. She also had 11 rebounds and three assists. Inja Butina and Nicole Jimenez both had a tremendous scoring day, with both of them scoring 21 and 17 respectively.

The Hall also had a great defensive night as well. The Pirates also held the best scorer in the Big East, Audrey Faber, to three points in the first half and 14 in the afternoon. Overall they held Creighton to 41% shooting and were able to outrebound the Bluejays 43-30.

As for the Friars, they are coming off a 67-66 comeback victory against the St. John’s Red Storm in Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. After playing an even first half, the Friars were down by one going into the half time break. After the break, the Friars went on a scoring drought, and St. John’s was able to gain a 42-31 lead with 4:16 left in the third. A pair of free throws ended their drought; however, the Friars were entering the fourth in a six-point hole. They started the final quarter of regulation with a 9-0 run to gain a lead, but St. John’s continued to fight and a three-pointer with four seconds left by the Red Storm sent the game into an extra period.

In the extra period, both teams were eying a possible second overtime period, with the score being 66-66 with 11 seconds left. Earlette Scott was able to ice the game on the free throw line though, after getting fouled after driving into the lane and making one of her free throws.

In the match, Maddie Jolin led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Mary Baskerville joins her as the only double-digit scorers for the Friars. As a team, they shot 43.6% on the floor and 54.5% from three-point land. They also held the Red Storm to 23.5% from behind the arc.

In Providence’s five conference games, Baskerville, Jolin, and Jovana Nogic have been the main scorers for the Friars, as those three are the only ones to average more than nine points per game. Baskerville also leads the Friars in rebounds with 7.4 per game.

Seton Hall is trying to end their weekend on a 2-0 note but will have the Friars in their way.
