Chris Schweitzer's week eight power five

Date: November 1, 2018

By Christopher Schweitzer

It was another week of every team in the top five winning their games this week. With one of the top five teams on a bye and a team on the bubble winning in impressive fashion, I couldn’t choose just five teams. There won’t be six teams for long, but with the Chargers and Panthers both playing really well they both deserved a spot in the top five.

1. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams continue to be the best team in football and are defeating whoever gets in their way. They took on the Packers on Sunday, and even though they received some help from Ty Montgomery, they were still impressive in the victory. The Rams outgained Green Bay in every yardage category and didn’t commit any turnovers on their way to keeping their perfect season alive.

2. New England Patriots

The one thing the New England Patriots never forget how to do is win football games. Even when Tom Brady and the offense aren’t at their best, they still win games and dominate. Despite Tom Brady not throwing a touchdown pass, and being forced to run the ball to 12 times with wide receivers because of the lack of running back depth, they still managed to win 25-6. Sure they were playing the Bills, but divisional games are always toss-ups.

3. Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs offense continues to be an unstoppable machine. Despite the defensive problems facing Kansas City, mainly against the run, they still manage to win. The Chiefs are 7-1 on the season after taking down the division rival Denver Broncos for the second time this year. Patrick Mahomes continued his fantastic season with another four touchdown pass performance. The only thing that will stop this team from making it to the Super Bowl is the defense, as well as Andy Reid’s clock management.

4. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints faced one of their toughest matchups of the season on Sunday as they took on the Minnesota Vikings. Even though they were outgained on Sunday night, the Saints used great field position given to them by their defense, as well as their strong running game to put away the Vikings. Nobody on the Saints had a great statistical day. but they still scored 30 points and beat one of the best teams in the NFC.

5. (Tie) Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers were on a bye this week so it’s not right to take them out of the top five when they didn’t play. The AFC side of Los Angeles is still going strong with a 5-2 record, with the only two losses coming against the Rams and Chiefs.

5. (Tie) Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are also 5-2 on the season now after taking down the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Carolina did what no team has so far this season, which was scoring 30 points against the Ravens. Carolina used their second ranked rushing offense to defeat Baltimore and make their way into the top five.
