Seton Hall drops another straight set loss at St. John's, 3-0

Seton Hall volleyball (7-22 Overall, 2-13 conference) fell to the St. John’s Red Storm (18-10 overall, 9-5 conference) in three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-17.

Seton Hall came into this game on a nine-game losing streak. The last outing for the Pirates was a back-to-back weekend against Butler and Xavier inside of Walsh Gymnasium. In the game against Butler, the Pirates had a 2-0 set lead until they lost three straight sets to fall to the Bulldogs. Against Xavier, Seton Hall found themselves falling in the same direction. Seton Hall was up two sets until the Musketeers won three straight. For the Red Storm, they won three straight games against Providence on Nov. 3 and against Xavier and Butler last weekend in Carnesecca Arena.

In the first set, Seton Hall came out on fire. Kills by Julia Wilkins and Reece Koehler kick started a 6-1 run, forcing a Red Storm timeout. Coming out of the timeout, St. John’s went on a scoring run of their own by way of two kills and two attacking errors by Koehler and Emilee Turner. Seton Hall still had the lead and they remained with the lead until St. John’s was able to tie it up 13-13. The Pirates and the Red Storm traded points as it was tied 15-15. After that, St. John’s went on a 10-3 scoring run to end off the first set.

St. John’s continued their storm into the second set, as they started on a 10-1 scoring run to begin. Seton Hall began to fight back, and a kill by Amanda Rachwal from Maggie Cvelbar capped off a 9-6 run for the Hall and forced a Red Storm time out. Out of the run, St. John’s was able to go on a 9-4 run and back to back kills by Klara Mikelova finished the second set.

Seton Hall and St. John’s were battling back and forth throughout the beginning of the third set. Midway through the third, St. John’s only lead by two with a 15-13 lead. The Red Storm then ran through the Pirates, going on a 10-4 run to end the match.

The Pirates will continue their season at home on Sunday when they rematch St. John’s inside of Walsh Gymnasium. The match will begin at 1 P.M.
