The Seton Hall Pirates volleyball team (14-14, 5-11 Big East) lost in brutal fashion to the Creighton Blue Jays (24-3, 16-0 Big East) this Sunday, 3-0.

Going into this game, the Pirates were in for a rough matchup. Creighton was ranked No. 12 in the nation and hadn’t lost a set since Oct. 16. Unfortunately, The Hall did not break that streak.

The Pirates were making Set 1 competitive, being tied 10-10 after a Jenna Walsh kill, one of only five from her today. Just like their most recent loss to Xavier, Seton Hall let Creighton go on a 5-1 run to pull away. The two teams traded points, but the Blue Jays were able to go on a strong 8-1 run to end the first set 25-15.

Again, the Pirates made the second set somewhat competitive too. It was a three-point game around halfway through, when the Jays led 12-9. Again, they pulled away on a four-point run and never really looked back.

The Pirates had their most kills of the match in this set with 10. Even though they hit double digits, that is indicative of how this match went, as they lost this set too, 25-17.

The third, and final set, is one that The Hall would be better off forgetting ever happened. It was 15-3 at one point, and things never got better. The final set ended 25-7. It was the Pirates first time being held to single digits in any set this season, excluding games that went to a fifth set.

In the third set, the Pirates recorded six attacking errors to only two kills. They had two assists and only eight digs. The worst stat of the third set, however, was the hitting percentage. They had a -17.4 hit percentage, bringing their match total to 5.6%.

Hoping for a win would’ve been wishful thinking, but the Pirates struggled to keep it close in most of their sets, outside of the first halves of Sets 1 and 2. Since Oct. 8 against Marquette, The Hall has won only five sets and gone 1-9 in that stretch.

With only two games left this season, the Pirates will look for at least a nice end to the year, as they return home to play Villanova (9-19, 5-11 Big East) and Georgetown (4-23, 2-14 Big East) on the 18th and 19th.
