The Seton Hall Pirates (2-3) dropped below .500 in a tough back-and-forth game with the VCU Rams (2-3) that went down to the final seconds. The final score of the game was 62-61 in favor of the Rams, making it the third straight loss for this very promising Seton Hall team.

Despite the defeat, three Pirates scored in double-digits, all of which had a minimum of 14 points. Lauren Park-Lane was the lead scorer for The Hall and finished the game with 16 points, seven assists, another team high, and three rebounds along with two steals. Park-Lane completely took over the fourth quarter and played a key role for the Pirates in their late comeback attempt.

The other two top performers were senior Sidney Cooks and Penn State transfer Sha’Lynn Hagans, who each had 14 points. Both Cooks and Hagans drained a pair of threes, as they were responsible for four of the five threes Seton Hall made all game.

Seton Hall trailed 35-26 at half, but in the second half the Pirates outscored the Rams 35-27. The early struggle was the storyline for The Hall. In the first half, the Pirates struggled with making baskets, shooting 31% from the field and shooting 27% in the second quarter alone.

However, Seton Hall battled their way back and overcame adversity in the second half, just falling short in the final moments of the game.

The storyline for the VCU Rams was their bench. VCU’s rotation earned 21 points, the highest scoring performance from the Rams bench all season, which was their weak point coming into the matchup. Samantha Robinson played a huge role off the bench for VCU, scoring 10 points along with eight rebounds and two assists.

The top performer for the Rams was Sarah Te-Biasu, who led the team with 14 points. Te-Biasu also tacked on three assists and three rebounds to complement her scoring today.

The Rams led for 30 minutes and 50 seconds, whereas the Pirates led for eight minutes and 10 seconds. Not only did VCU dominate in minutes leading, but they also dominated in the paint, outscoring The Hall 38-24. What helped lift the Rams over the Pirates was how well they were able to clean up the boards, as VCU ended up outrebounding The Hall, 36-29.

The Pirates now look ahead to their matchup against Wisconsin on Friday to get a much-needed win. The matchup with the Badgers will be the first meeting between the two schools and the second game of three that the Pirates will play at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
