Pirates huddle together before a game.

The Seton Hall Pirates (4-5-2, 0-3-0 Conf.) dropped a close game tonight in Queens, NY against Saint John’s Red Storm (5-3-3, 2-1-0 Conf.) by a score of 1-0. Nicole Gordon scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute of action.

Saint John’s led the game in shots with 11 compared to Seton Hall’s three. So far this season, the Pirates have struggled in conference play, dropping their first three games without scoring a goal.

Grace Gordon continued to have a good season despite the loss as she had six saves on the night. Chiara Pucci, Maille McDermott and Natalie Tavana lead the Hall in shots with one each.

On the other side, Jessica Garziano led the Red Storm with three shots on the night. One bright side was that Seton Hall had less fouls than Saint John’s with 11 compared to the Red Storm’s 14.

There was only one yellow card on the night, being given to Pirate Maddy DeCola.

The majority of the game was slow and uninspiring. The Hall has to find a way to break away from this losing streak as even though it is early in conference play this could spell disaster for the season with Xavier, Marquette and Georgetown coming up on the schedule.

They must sort out the lack of both shooting and scoring during their contests against Providence and Villanova to prepare for tougher foes down the line.

Looking forward to next game, they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Xavier Musketeers who just beat the Villanova Wildcats by a score of 1-0 with 21 shots on the night.

The Pirates have to figure out a formation to keep up with Xavier’s Molly Mclaughlin who had four shots on the night. This matchup might come down to how good Chiara Pucci can play on the defensive end of the field for Seton Hall.

It also feels like Grace Gordon will continue to have what has been the season of her career, stopping seemingly everything in her path despite the defense falling apart around her each and every game.

Despite being shut out the past three games, the Pirates have not had a bad season offensively, scoring over one goal in every game they have won this season. Once again, Seton Hall will travel to Xavier on Sunday to take on the Musketeers, with coverage right here on WSOU.net.
