It was a career day for Lauren Park-Lane on Friday, as she secured a career-high 37 points in the Seton Hall Pirates (3-3) win over the Wisconsin Badgers (3-4), 83-72.

It certainly was a unique outing for the Pirates, as not only did Park-Lane have a career day, but she did it in large part without her star partner Sidney Cooks, who only logged 15 minutes on the night.

Coach Anthony Bozella made a few changes to the starting lineup, opting to start Jala Jordan and Shailyn Pinkney in place of Cooks and Azana Baines. The moves, while interesting, paid off for The Hall, as they were able to break their three-game losing streak.

The first quarter was a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair, ending on a buzzer-beater three from Badger guard Sania Copeland to tie it up at 22. It was evident early that it would be the Lauren Park-Lane show, as she ended the quarter with 10 points and two threes.

Cooks was making quite the impact from her new role off the bench, scoring seven in her limited time on the court. She would finish the afternoon with nine points, three rebounds, a block, and a steal.

Moving into the second, the Pirates stole back momentum from the Badgers, going on a 10-0 run in the first 4:41 of the quarter. Jorden nailed two-straight threes before Wisconsin finally answered back with a pair of fastbreak scores to make it 32-26.

Seton Hall then roared back with an 11-3 run in the next 3:14 to make take their lead back up to 14. The Badgers managed to cut the deficit down to eight before heading into halftime down, 43-35.

The Pirates continued to keep their foot on the gas, as LPL exploded for 14 points in the third. Park-Lane helped her squad extend the lead to 11 going into the final quarter, where she would continue to dominate.

Park-Lane tied and broke her career high in the fourth, thanks to a couple of trips to the free-throw line to pad her stats. She finished 11-of-21 from the floor with 37 points, two rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

Though LPL stole the spotlight, The Hall’s bench showed flashes of excellence as well, scoring 21 points thanks to Baines and Cooks combined 19. Another thing that helped the Pirates floor the Badgers was their rebounding, as they grabbed 39 boards to Wisconsin’s 35, a rarity from a Seton Hall team that is often outrebounded.

Seton Hall managed to outshoot Wisconsin as well, going 45.9% from the field compared to the Badgers’ 42.4%.

This victory is a huge confidence booster in what has been a tumultuous start to the season for The Hall. They will have little time to celebrate, however, as their next game against Georgia starts at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Seton Hall’s very own 89.5 FM WSOU will have coverage of the Pirates’ final game of the Paradise Jam, with Will Swankie and John Makuch on the call.
