On Saturday, the Seton Hall softball team (10-9, 3-2 conference) took on the Creighton Bluejays (10-10, 0-3 conference) in a doubleheader at home. In the first of two, the Pirates stifled a sixth inning Bluejays comeback to secure the victory, 4-3.

Seton Hall’s offense started off hot in the afternoon heat, with a leadoff homerun by Shelby Smith in the second. The Pirates ended the inning scoring two more and held the Bluejays scoreless all the way up until the sixth inning, where Emma Rosonke hit a three-run double to right field before getting tagged out at third.

Tied going into the bottom of the sixth, Janae Barracato brought in Miranda Arruda for the go-ahead score. Smith (5-5) gets credited for the win on the mound, striking out five on a full seven innings pitched.

Hours after the squad earned their first win of the day, they closed out the doubleheader with another victory, coming out on top, 7-4. The Hall scored in chunks in the first and fifth, bringing in all seven of their runs in just those two innings.

Barracato carried over her offensive success from the last matchup into this one, hitting a two-run shot to left field to get the Pirates going. They then scored twice more on a walk and a wild pitch to go up 4-0.

They had another offensive burst in the fifth, earning three runs off of two singles, two doubles, and a stolen base.

Seton Hall’s defense stayed strong throughout, only allowing four runs on seven hits. Pitcher Sydney Babik (5-3) earned the win, with Smith coming in to clean things up in the seventh to make her first save of the season.
