The Seton Hall Pirates traveled to Indianapolis for a three-game series against the Butler Bulldogs. Game one was close, with the Pirates winning the contest by a score of 8-5.

Freshman infielder Taylor Hill was the biggest part of the Pirates offense, going 3/4 with four RBIs and a double to her name. Add to that an RBI from Janae Barracato and two from Baylee Allender as well.

Cayden Ehrenberg started the game for the Pirates and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and five walks but only getting pinned with two earned runs on the day.

The Butler offense seemingly could get nothing going today against Ehrenberg, with their best hitter, Ella White, ending the day going 2/4 with a run. Karli Ricketts started for Butler, giving up four runs in four innings while throwing seven strikeouts.

In the second game of the Friday doubleheader, the Seton Hall softball team fell to Butler, 4-3.

The Pirates found themselves up early 1-0 thanks to an RBI single from Taylor Hill. Butler was quick to respond with a two-run shot in the bottom half of the inning taking a 2-1 lead.

Seton Hall struck back in the fourth inning as singles from Hill and Barracato led to a third single in the inning from Jenna Blevins, scoring both runs. Seton Hall regained the lead, 3-2.

It was all Butler from then on as they would tie it up with a solo home run in the sixth, knotting the game up at three apiece.

They would follow this with a bunt, stolen base, and sacrifice bunt that would score the game-winning run.

Game 3 – by: Chris Kiely

This weekend, the Seton Hall softball team (12-13) lost the Sunday matchup and the series in Indianapolis to the Butler Bulldogs (18-9). For the Lady Pirates, the story of their season has been that has been not being able to string along multiple victories, with the longest win streak this year being two.

The starters for today’s matchup were Seton Hall’s Shelby Smith and Butler’s Alyssa Graves. In the first inning, the Bulldogs, after a quick top of the first, struck early. With runners on the corners and one out, Ella White hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

For the next two innings, Seton Hall’s Smith would again deal with runners in scoring position but held the Bulldogs at bay. As for the Pirates in the batter’s box, nothing went there way for the first four innings. Graves faced 13 Pirates, and only one of them reached base.

Trouble would continue for Seton Hall in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two quick outs, Butler’s Maddie Moore reached on a fielding error, Bri Avery singled, and Lauren Fey walked.

With the bases loaded and Ellie Boyer at the plate, Smith would walk a run in to make it a 2-0 Butler lead. Butler would go on to double their lead to 4-0 on a home run by Monique Hoosen in the very next inning.

While the Bulldogs offense was making noise, the Pirates was as quiet as a mouse. For the first six innings, Seton Hall was limited to just two hits, with not a runner past second base. They would eventually crack the scoring column at the top of the seventh, with a leadoff homerun by Baylee Allender.

The home run for Allender was her third of the season and 24th of her career, placing her for sixth-best in Seton Hall career history. But it would be too little, too late for the Pirates. They would go on to lose by a final score of 4-1.

Graves now has an 8-3 record with a 2.50 ERA, Smith came out with the loss, and now is 6-8 on the yar. Butler’s relief pitcher Ricketts came out with her first save of the season.

Seton Hall’s next matchup will be against the Manhattan Jaspers in a doubleheader in Riverdale, N.Y. on Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
