On Friday night, the Seton Hall women’s basketball team dropped a tough road game in Omaha, Neb. to the Creighton Blue Jays by a score of 83-60.

Seton Hall came out strong in the first few minutes of the first half, knocking down quick threes in the early stages of the game. The biggest issue for the Pirates seems to still be the turnover game, as they ended with 17 turnovers by the end of the game compared to the Blue Jays’ 16.

However, the overall first half was still tough for Seton Hall, as it took them until the end of the second quarter to truly start clicking, as Creighton held the lead and was able to score easily. Once the Pirates came alive, Curtessia Dean started to take over, as she led the team after the first half of play with 10 points in eight minutes.

The second half was still difficult for the Pirates. The big thing to remember is that they had not played a game since their New Year’s loss against Villanova, so after coming off almost three weeks of rest, they still looked fairly decent against a very good Blue Jays team.

This is a good restart point for the Pirates, as they will now try to figure out how to bounce back and make the most of a tough road loss in Big East play.

The stars of the game for the Pirates included Curtessia Dean, who ended the night leading the team in both points, with 13, and rebounds, with nine. The second star was Katie Armstrong, with 10 points and two rebounds.

Danielle Robinson and Mya Bembry each had eight points (season-high for Robinson), Sidney Cooks finished with seven points and seven rebounds, and Mya Jackson tallied six with three steals. Finally, both headliners for the Pirates, Park-Lane and Espinoza-Hunter, only had four points apiece and a combined three rebounds in 41 minutes.

On the other side of the floor, the name to remember is Emma Ronsiek, who ended the night with 27 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes of play, as well as Lauren Jensen, who finished with 14 points and two rebounds.

The final stat line for the Pirates included shooting 21/61 (34.4%) from the field, 4/18 (22.2%) from three, went 14/22 (63.6%) from the free throw line, and had 34 rebounds and 12 steals by night’s end.

As for Creighton, they shot 35/63 (55.6%) from the floor, 8/25 (32.0%) from three and ended with 36 rebounds and 10 steals overall.

Looking ahead, the Pirates will travel to Providence on Sunday to take on the Friars to try and get back into the win column, so be sure to tune into WSOU at 1 p.m. for coverage of the Big East tilt. Wilnir Louis and Rony Jerez will have the call once again in the final game of the weekend road trip.
