The Seton Hall baseball team took down the Wagner Seahawks 7-1 in nine innings yesterday on a chilly afternoon in Mike Sheppard Sr. stadium.

The game started out slow for both teams. Only one run was scored through four innings, with the Hall getting on the board in the second after Staus Pokrovsky, stole home on a wild pitch from Wagner’s Ruben Del Castillo.

Wagner scored their only run of the day in the top of the fifth after a nice double from AJ Vigliotti drove Griffin Selby home. This play ended Aaron Groller’s day.

However, from there, it was pretty much smooth sailing for Seton Hall. They put up an uncontested six runs from the bottom of the fifth inning on, including a couple of highlight plays.

Pokrovsky found himself rounding the bases again after a deep two-run homer late in the bottom of the seventh inning, driving home Jonathan Luders. This was Pokrovsky’s second home run of the season.

Will Gale had another highlight run, but instead from a powerful hit, it came off of some extremely savvy base running. Gale stole second easily, but he wasn’t done there. After taking a couple of pitches, he scampered down the basepaths and slid safely into third base. A sacrifice grounder brought him home.

Groller had a solid day on the mound for the Pirates overall. Though he only pitched 4.2 innings, he finished with four strikeouts and just one earned run, drastically bringing down his ERA.

Daniel Frontera subbed in for Groller, but it just wasn’t his afternoon. Frontera finished with just 0.1 innings pitched, nine pitches thrown in total.

After Frontera, Alex Nicolosi came to the mound for Seton Hall and wrapped up the game well. Being credited with the save, Nicolosi ended with five strikeouts and only two hits allowed in four innings pitched.

With the win, the Pirates advance to five wins and 18 losses on the year. This win against Wagner marks their fourth straight win. Seton Hall will be back in action on tomorrow when they take on Mercer at home. Be sure to tune into 89.5 FM WSOU to hear Jonathan Heite and Ryan Henry on the call.
