On an afternoon in which 10 seniors from the Seton Hall women’s soccer team were honored for their commitment to the program, the Pirates fell to the undefeated No. 20 Georgetown Hoyas, 3-0.

Seniors Laura Hooper, Lauren DiPietro, Dani Brinckman, Emily Arellano, Claudia D’Angelo, Emma Ramsay, Marisa DiFonso, Lizzy Kirk and Lauren Huff were all accompanied by family and received flowers prior to the kickoff of what would be their final game at Owen T. Carroll Field.

The Pirates opened the match as the aggressor, as Hooper tallied the first shot of the game three minutes in, but one that was saved by Georgetown’s star goalkeeper, Allie Augur.

The next 15 minutes of the match was a back-and-forth affair. Although the Pirates didn’t register another shot attempt until the 39th minute mark, Seton Hall was stout defensively, in particular DiPietro, who took on the assignment of containing the Hoyas’ best forward, Gia Vicari.

But in the 21st minute, Georgetown’s Sydney Cummings, who towered over the Pirates’ defense, scored a goal on assists from both Kelly Ann Livingstone and Maya Fernandez-Powell.

The Pirates kept the match close for the remainder of the first half but failed to capitalize on a number of offensive chances. As the clock was winding down, it was clear both teams needed a breather.

To start the second half, Georgetown had their name all over the game. They drew an offsides call 30 seconds into the half and took a corner kick that was saved by Pirates’ goalkeeper Gordon just two minutes later. Another goal was saved by Gordon in the 53rd minute after the Hoyas’ Tatum Lenain failed to convert on a prime opportunity and at this point of the game, Seton Hall looked evenly matched with one of the best teams in the nation.

But just 10 minutes later in the 62nd minute, Georgetown’s Julia Leas tallied the Hoyas’ second goal of the game on an assist by Fernandez-Powell. Following the Hoyas’ second goal, the game got a chippy as three straight fouls were called on both the Pirates and Hoyas in a matter of two minutes.

And to put the nail in the coffin, Georgetown scored their final goal of the game in the 70th minute, this time by Livingstone on an assist by Fernandez-Powell, her third of the game.

Hooper ended the day with two shots, both of which were on target, and Gordon totaled six saves for the Pirates.

The Pirates, who fell to 6-11 after this loss, failed to secure a single victory at home this season against a Big East opponent. With that being said, the six victories the Pirates did secure this season were the most since 2012, when the Pirates won seven.

Seton Hall will look to match that win total from 2012, as their final game of the season is this Thursday at 6 p.m., and the Pirates will travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the 9-5-3 Friars.
