Recap: Pirates drop one at home in OT to Creighton, 77-76

The Seton Hall Pirates (9-5 overall, 7-4 conference) beat the Creighton Blue Jays (5-8 overall, 4-5 conference) in a thriller! The win comes after Seton Hall after a devastating loss against the University of Connecticut a few days ago.

 

The first half showed Seton Hall dominating. Seton Hall broke away from their traditional manner of starting the first half steady to a more aggressive approach, as it was raining layups and second-chance points. Desiree Elmore contributed with a double-double as she scored 10 points and 11 rebounds as well as Lauren Park-Lane who added four points, four rebounds, and one steal. For Creighton, Temi Carda had five points and two rebounds while Mykel Parham scored four points and four rebounds. The score was 33-25 at the half.

 

In the second half, however, the Blue Jays were able to crawl back into the game, even though the Pirates grew a 14-point lead. Creighton came up with some efficient plays to outrun the defense and more Bluejays scored from all parts of the floor. There were multiple times during the game where Seton Hall had a scoring drought that lasted for as long as three minutes. Elmore finished with the last-minute layup to help make. The score was 66-66 after 40 minutes and the game had to be decided in overtime.

In overtime, Creighton continued to stay aggressive as they were able to outscore and out rebound their opponent! One of the most exhilarating moments was when Mya Jackson made a jumper to help lift the Pirates 75-74. Seconds later, Tatum Rembao made a crucial layup with two seconds left in overtime to seal the deal of the game. Jackson finished with 15 points, two rebounds, one assist, and two steals while Rembao finished with 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

 

Overall, Seton Hall was a solid team as each player made the best with their opportunity on the court. Espinoza-Hunter dropped seven points and a remarkable 15 rebounds. Also, Elmore finished with 25 points, one assist, two blocks, and one steal.

For Creighton, Maly is continuing to impact college basketball as she provided 20 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. Carda and Rembao also combined for 30 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

 

The Pirates will be back into action Monday evening to continue Big East play with the No. 22 DePaul Blue Demons at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. WSOU 89.5 FM has you covered for this must-watch game!
