The Seton Hall Pirates traveled to Omaha, Neb. yesterday to take on the Creighton Blue Jays at Morrison Stadium. The Pirates unfortunately dropped the contest by a score of 2-0, falling to 6-9 on the season. This is also now the Pirates sixth loss in a row.

Despite the outcome, the players played well all-around—Grace Gordon had four saves on 14 shots, Naomi Welch had two shots on goal, and Sophie Liston secured two shots on the day with one on goal. The final stat line for the Pirates was still solid, as they accumulated six shots with four shots on goal, four saves and one corner.

As for the Blue Jays, their stars included goalie Keelan Terrell, who had a shutout in the contest going four for four on saves. Midfielder Abigail Santana had one goal for the Blue Jays on three shots, and the final star for Creighton was the other goal scorer Hailey Rothwell, who had a goal on two shots. The final stats for the Blue Jays as a team had them tallying 14 shots with six on goal, racking up four saves and having seven corners on the day.

One bright spot for the Pirates in a tough loss comes in the form of penalties, as this is another game where they seemed to be carving down on the number of penalties. They committed seven, which beat out Creighton by one at the match’s end.

The Pirates seemed to be able to get their shots on the net or near the net, yet they have struggled this season in conference play against these tough opponents who they need to beat if they want to have a shot at either the Big East or NCAA Tournaments. As we get closer to the end of the women’s soccer season, the future is uncertain for a talented Pirates team who was in the talks to be a favorite of the Big East this season and certainly started the year off on the right foot.

They are still looking for their first conference win since they beat Villanova back in September. Add to the fact that they have dropped seven of their last eight games on the season, something needs to change soon because this team has the chemistry and the talent to make a push, but we just have yet to see it in their conference play.

Looking forward, the Pirates play St. John’s this Thursday, Oct. 21, who currently have a 7-5 record and look as though they are beatable. The Red Storm have lost two of their last three, but they won a close game 1-0 over Providence yesterday.

Come support the team Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field as the Pirates look to make a push towards the playoffs and improve to 7-9 on the season.
