The Seton Hall Pirates (9-8, 2-4 CONF) are on their way to the Capital One Arena to face off against the Georgetown Hoyas (5-12, 0-6 CONF) in another conference matchup on Tuesday. The Pirates look to ride the momentum of a big win against Butler on Saturday.

While conference play has not gone the Pirates’ way early in the season, losing their first three matchups, the team has since won two of their last three against conference opponents.

The latest win for the Pirates against the Butler Bulldogs could arguably be considered one of their best wins of the entire season. Butler had gone into the game after winning their previous two contests; however, the Pirates cruised to a victory that ended 76-51.

If the Pirates hope to continue to come up with a recipe for success, they ought to look back at the ingredients that resulted in this impressive win.

Luckily for them, the Georgetown Hoyas have been the bottom team in the conference up to this point in the season and still have not won a conference matchup.

It is important for a team that is trying to turn a season around to give each opponent ahead of them their best game plan.

For Seton Hall this season, that game plan has heavily featured the guard pair of Al-Amir Dawes and Kadary Richmond, who lead the team in points and assists respectively. The Pirate backcourt also leads the team in minutes per game this season.

Kadary Richmond will be especially important for the Pirates’ offense as he has been their lead playmaker thus far. In the game against Butler, Richmond had a season-high seven assists with 2:38 left to play in the first half.

Defense has been key for The Hall in their victories this season as well. Seton Hall ranks fourth in both steals and blocks in the BIG EAST as a team while also being ranked sixth in rebounding.

On the other side of the matchup, Georgetown ranks one spot below Seton Hall in rebounding and blocks but is among the bottom teams in the conference in steals, ranked ninth overall.

The issue for Seton Hall this season has been on the other side of the ball, where the Pirates rank dead last in the conference. The contributing factor to this rough offensive start is the team’s struggles from both the free-throw and the three-point lines where they rank last in the BIG EAST.

For the Hoyas, the Pirates need to look out for Primo Spears, who leads the team in both points and assists and, despite losing to Marquette last time out, had a good outing with 18 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

Seton Hall will look to make it back-to-back conference wins when they face the Hoyas at 8:30 p.m. on WSOU 89.5 FM, where Spencer Gonzales and Joe Matthews will have the call.
