The Seton Hall Pirates Men’s Soccer team will open Big East play when they take on No. 15 St. Johns on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates are coming into this game with a record of 2-0-1. Seton Hall will finish off a three-game home stretch that has consisted of two shutout wins over La Salle and Fairleigh Dickinson.

What has been huge for the Pirates this season is their ability to get out to fast starts. Seton Hall has outscored opponents 5-1 in the first half. In their last match against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Pirates added to their lead quickly with two goals in 13 minutes. They kept this score for the rest of the game as the pirates played keep away until the whistle blew.

Junior CJ Tibbling has had a fantastic start to his season as he has scored in The Hall’s two out of three games. He is also the team’s leading point getter with five. Tibbling got the first goal in their last game and was a big help in keeping the ball away from the Fairleigh Dickinson as he added another shot-on goal. Another scoring option for the Pirates could be sophomore Johannes Pex. Pex score twice in the season opening tie with the Highlanders but has yet to score in the Pirates’ two wins this year.

Seton Hall has split time the year between goalies, as sophomore Hannes Ronnolmen has started two games while senior Andreas Nota started one and came off the bench in another. Nota has yet to allow a goal and has made five saves this season.

Looking at St. Johns, they are coming off an offense explosion as they beat Stony Brook 4-2 on Tuesday. St. Johns scored three times in the first 13 minutes of action including a goal just nine seconds into the contest. The reigning Big East Offensive Player of the Year Tani Oluwaseyi leads the Red Storm with three goals and an assist in just two games of action.  St. John’s are currently ranked 15th and 21st by college Soccer News and Topdrawer Soccer, respectively.

St Johns and Seton Hall have a long-standing history with one another with 41 meetings all time. Last season the Pirates took at the time the No. 4 ranked St. John’s to double overtime with a 1-1 draw. St. John’s have had the Pirates number as of late though as they have won 10 out of the last 11 meetings.

The game will be played at Owen T. Carroll Field and Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. You can listen to the game be called on 89.5 FM WSOU. Christian Gardner and Louie Pasculli will have the call and everything you need for this matchup.
