On Friday night, the Seton Hall women’s volleyball team (7-3) took down Central Connecticut State (5-4) in three sets to capture their first victory of the Seton Hall Classic.

The squad dominated the entire match, and in addition to a collective .277 attack percentage, numerous members of the team stepped up at Walsh Gymnasium.

Leading the way for the Pirates were Jenna Walsh and Bianca Bucciarelli, who tallied 13 (third straight contest with this number of kills) and 11 kills respectively. Walsh also maintained an impressive .429 hit percentage along with four digs while Bucciarelli posted six digs and three blocks.

Seton Hall was able to secure a first set victory over the Blue Devils by a score of 25-19, where they also notched a .325 attack percentage, the best in one set throughout the entire match.

However, the second set was where the Pirates really took off, as they collected the first 12 out of 13 points and finished off CCSU 25-13.

The third and final set was tightly contested, as the Blue Devils jumped out to an early 5-3 advantage. Seton Hall would then jump out to a 15-4 run, and after some more back-and-forth action, the Pirates ended the night with a 25-17 win.

In addition to Walsh and Bucciarelli, Perri Lucas and Hanna Tulli had solid performances as well. Lucas tallied five kills and two digs, and Tulli collected four kills and two blocks. Taylor Jakubowki also ended with a match-high 15 assists, in addition to four digs, which allowed her to reach the 1000-assist and 500-dig marks for her Seton Hall career.

The Pirates as a team finished with 42 kills to CCSU’s 26, 54 digs to 44, and seven blocks to one. With this victory, Seton Hall is now 13-1 in their all-time series against the Blue Devils and remain 3-0 on the season when playing on a Friday.

Next up will be a busy Saturday doubleheader on campus, as the Pirates will face Dartmouth at 12:30 p.m. and NJIT at 7 p.m. to cap off the Seton Hall Classic. These will be the last matches before Big East play beings on Sept. 23 in a home clash with the UConn Huskies.
