The Linden Tigers (1-2) lost another heartbreaker to the Colonia Patriots on the road today by a score of 28-25.

The Tigers came out hot scoring first to take an early 6-0 lead, coming by way of Tequan Thomas’ legs once again.

However, it seemed like Linden could not catch a break from then on out in the first half, after Colonia took the lead on a 51-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jaden Jones to receiver Pat Miller to take a 7-6 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Tigers muffed the kick and gave the Patriots back the ball in prime field position, leading to them taking a 14-6 lead deep into the second quarter.

After that, it became a battle of the quarterbacks as both Tequan Thomas and Jaylen Jones took over the game, Thomas scoring another touchdown to put Linden down by only two points heading into halftime.

Once again it became a game of mistakes for the Tigers, as they continually gave up penalties leading to a Patriot score, giving them a 21-12 lead which they would not give up for the rest of the game.

Despite Linden rushing down field like lighting out of a bottle and scoring again to make it a three-point game, their kicker missed a field goal that would have tied the game at 28.

Then on the ensuing drive after forcing Colonia’s fourth punt of the game, Thomas threw an errant ball on a play he should have just run out of bounds to preserve time and got picked off in Patriot territory. Colonia then proceeded to kneel out the clock, securing the win.

Tequan Thomas leads the Tigers on the season with 131 rushing yards and Jaden Jones leads the Patriots with 195 rushing yards on the year.

Jaden Jones was also a threat through the air Friday, throwing dots all over the field. This was under the assumption the Colonia had a very similar play style to Linden they ended up using the air attack much more then anyone really expected them too.

Linden looks to bounce back next Friday as they take on Perth Amboy at home at 7 p.m. Tune into WSOU.net for live coverage of Linden high school football.
