Hoyas run away early from struggling Pirates

Date: October 20, 2018

On a beautiful fall afternoon, the Seton Hall Pirates men's soccer team (5-5-2) fell once again to #2 conference-ranked Georgetown with the final score 4-0 in an offensive eruption by the Hoyas.

Coming off a win in their non-conference finale against NJIT Tuesday, which allowed them to look past a tough, gritty loss to Providence a few days prior, nothing went right for head coach Andreas Lindberg's team.

First, it was the news that offensive star Carlton McKenzie would be out once again, after receiving a red card in the 88th minute against Providence which ultimately gave him the two-game suspension. A harsh penalty at the worst possible time, the assumption is concluded that NJIT was a non-conference game; thus, the Pirates squad had to lose the junior forward once again.

Once the whistle blew to start the first half it did not get pretty as Georgetown forward Achara came into the box relatively early and put the Hoyas on the board in the 7th minute. He would later score in the 60th minute to give himself 6 goals on the season so far.

However, back in the first half, Achara would pick up his fourth yellow card of the season, which brought in offensive Big East superstar Derek Dobson who surprisingly entered this game as a substitute for Achara. Dobson would definitively make his entrance on the pitch as he scored in the 38th minute, giving him his seventh goal of the season and now tying Creighton's Sven Koenig for most goals scored in the conference.

When analyzing what truly went wrong in that first half, coach Lindberg stated it perfectly, describing that they gave away two really poor goals and that can completely change the complexity of the game.

The Georgetown squad, who picked up their fourth conference win, did not look back when the first half concluded and held onto that early commanding lead with a shutout. This hands the Pirates their fourth conference loss of the season.

Coach Lindberg was subtly positive even with the blowout loss, keeping in mind that the Pirates face very winnable games to end their season. With the three games that remain for the 2018 Big East campaign, two of those teams (Butler and Villanova) are in the bottom 4 of the conference.

Even though Georgetown is #2 in the conference, Lindberg took this game as seriously as he does every game.

"Every game is winnable, even today was winnable," Lindberg said. "We should have done better with it. We did really poor and it sets up a must win against Butler. Now we just need to regroup and not pout about it."

The Pirates travel to Indianapolis on Wednesday to face Butler, time slated for a 7pm kickoff. You can find out the result of that very important match on wsou.net
