Album Review: Heavy Meta by Nekrogoblikon

Date: June 2, 2015

Everyone likes to have fun. I don't care who you are and how brutal music you like to listen to, but everyone likes to have fun. But in today's music scene, people seem to be forgetting that, but certainly not Nekrogoblikon as their latest release, Heavy Meta, packs a killer punch of good music and a lot of laughs.

Heavy Meta starts off with the track "The End of Infinity" which really sets the pace for the whole album. Underneath all of the cheese, chiptunes and random goblin noises is a surprisingly technical, yet catchy song. The whole album follows through as Heavy Meta is filled with dueling solos between guitars and keyboards, driving base and an absolutely stellar mix of heavy and clean vocals.

With songs like "Snax and Violence" which is literally about eating snacks while committing violent acts as they take over earth, or "We Need A Gimmick" which talks about winning over the human race it is impossible not to fall in love with this album as you listen for the goofy lyrics but stay for the technicality. "Lets Get F*****", featuring the one and only Andrew W.K. takes the album in a different direction, as there are more catchy cleans and an outro that is basically taken out of an Andrew W.K. song that encourages everyone to start a goblin party.

Too often bands take themselves too seriously, so when a band like Nekrogoblikon comes around, and you get a combination of music and fun, especially in metal, it is a big breath of fresh air.

This album isn't without its flaws, as a few of the songs feel a little repetitive, and it can be too "out there" for some, but if you want an example of how metal can be heavy, catchy, and entertaining, check out Heavy Meta, by Nekrogoblikon, releasing on their own record label, Mystery Box, on June 2nd!

RATING: 4.5/5
