WSOU Celebrates College Radio Day

South Orange, N.J. – WSOU 89.5 FM will unite with college radio station across the country this Friday during the annual internationally-recognized College Radio Day. As this year’s College Radio Day New Jersey State Headquarters, WSOU, Seton Hall Pirate Radio, will celebrate the day through special programming, charity kick-offs, and NJ station collaborations.
 
Throughout the day, WSOU will bring its listeners the best in the loudest rock in addition to airing a compilation of College Radio Day production spots. These spots will feature several key figures and popular bands in the loud rock genre who talk about how important college radio is and why it should be supported. These features include influential bands such as Slipknot, Deftones, Phil Anselmo of Pantera and Down, Killswitch Engage, Metal Allegiance, and many others. .
 
89.5FM will also be featured as part of College Radio Day’s 24 Hour Marathon which can be heard nationwide. WSOU will provide two-hours of programming for this special broadcast heard on many college stations from coast to coast and streamed live on www.collegeradio.org.

As the New Jersey State Headquarters for College Radio Day, WSOU will also bring in staff members from surrounding college stations, including students from Montclair State University (WMSC) and Rider (WRRC). In addition, professionals in the broadcast industry will talk about the importance of college radio and how it shapes individuals and the broadcasting and music communities as a whole.
 
“WSOU has participated in College Radio Day since the beginning and everyone on our staff feels strongly about being part of this international event,” said WSOU program director Steven Varsanyi. “There are so many unique and vital college stations that are serve their listeners in ways commercial stations can’t. That is why it is great to have a day when everyone comes together to celebrate College Radio.”
  
WSOU will use College Radio Day as the kick-off to its second annual food drive for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. From Oct. 2 through mid-November, the station will be collecting non-parishable foods through a variety of activities.
