Women's soccer drops 4-1 to Villanova on the road

Seton Hall women’s soccer fell to Villanova 4-1 in their fourth conference game of the year on Wednesday afternoon.  

In the first half, Villanova Forward Bri Austin scored in the 17th minute off of a penalty kick. Austin scored once again in the 19th minute as she netted her seventh goal of the season and second of the match. Chloe O’Neill, a freshman forward for Villanova scored in the 21st minute of play. The goal by O’Neill was her fourth goal of the season and only goal of the contest. The Wildcats scored all of their first half goals in a span of four minutes and entered the second half leading the Pirates 3-0.

The second half started with a Villanova goal in the 54th minute by Natalie Foque. With that goal, the Wildcats lead the Pirates 4-0. The Pirates were able to get on the board and avoid a shutout loss, as Pirate Forward Tanika Roach scored a goal in the 74th minute of action. The goal by Roach was assisted by Alyssa Reszkowski.

Seton Hall attempted a total of 16 shots with only eight of them being on goal. Villanova also attempted 16 shots and had 10 of them on goal. Despite giving up four goals, Pirate goalkeeper Anna Maclean managed to save five shots. Villanova used two goalkeepers, as their primary goalie Hensley Hancuff saved five shots, and only gave up one goal during her time on the pitch. Backup goalie Rebecca gartner saved one shot in her relief appearance.

With the loss, the Pirates fall to a record of 2-7-4, and are winless in four conference matchups. Seton Hall looks to rebound at 2pm on Sunday, when they visit Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska.
