The Seton Hall women’s soccer team fell on the road, 1-0, as they were defeated at Providence.

Goalkeeper Anna MacLean was called upon to make crucial saves early in the action. The Friars, being the aggressor early on, directed a header shot at goal that MacLean deflected away from the goal. McClean then caught a shot from Providence, minutes after two corner kicks. The senior went onto have three crucial saves in the first half.

The Pirates were unable to get the offense rolling in the first half, as they failed to get off a shot on goal. Many of the offensive attacks resulted in offsides or fouls.

Providence scored the eventual game-winner as they placed a shot from the middle of the box out of McClean’s reach. It made it difficult for the Pirates to operate offensively, allowing 11 shots total compared to their two, on the afternoon.

The Hall began the second half with a bit more urgency than the first. Seconds after the Providence goal, sophomore defender Dani Brinckman saw her shot just escape the frame of the goal as she tried to equalize.

Forward Alyssa Reszkowski, who has scored or assisted in two of the last three games, tried to tie the game in the 82nd minute. Reskowski navigated towards goal, took her shot and forced the Providence goalkeeper to make a save.

A bright spot on the afternoon for the Pirates, MacLean finished the game with fives saves. The Ontario native now has nine games this season with five saves on more, consistently keeping the team in games.

The Seton Hall women’s soccer team will close out the season on high note as they travel to Marquette for their season finale. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.
