The Pirates (7-14, 2-6) defeated the DePaul Blue Demons, 3-0, in Walsh Gymnasium Friday night.

The Pirates came out strong in the first set jumping out to a 6-0 lead behind some key plays by Caitlin Koska and Haylee Gasser. Sophia Coffey also continued her dominance in the assists column by finishing the first set with 8 assists. The Hall would win the first set 25-18 and would continue their success in the second set.

More big time plays came up thanks to libero Eden Dolezal and senior Abby Thelen. In both the first and second sets, the Pirates ended up earning a 10 point lead at 18-8. DePaul was not able to stop Seton Hall’s production, as the Pirates won the second set 25-12 mainly behind Gasser’s 5 kills in the set.

DePaul opened the third set by earning the first point but would never regain the lead after that as the Pirates then went on a 5-1 run. DePaul struggled with errors in the middle of the third set as the Pirates would then go up on a 19-15 lead behind strong plays by Coffey and Koska. The Pirates closed out the final set with Haylee Gasser’s 12th kill of the night and the Pirates won the final set 25-16.

Gasser’s 12 kills was a personal high for the season, and both Coffey and Koska finished with double-doubles as the Pirates won their second game in a row. The Pirates are back in action Satruday night when they play 19th ranked Marquette at 5 pm.
