Volleyball defeated by Xavier 3-1

The Seton Hall Pirates traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Xavier Musketeers and were defeated 3-1. Seton Hall now holds an 8-17 record on the season and a 3-8 record in the Big East.

Xavier won the first set by a score of 25-21, and never trailed at any point. Despite never having a lead in the first set, Seton Hall was able to keep it close and competitive for the entire set. They tied the first set seven different times but were never able to take the lead. Senior Abby Thelen led the Pirates in the first set with six kills.

Seton Hall was able to take the second set with a score of 25-22 thanks to strong efforts from Thelen, Haylee Gasser, and Caitlin Koska. All three of those players had 4 kills in the second set. The Pirates were able to jump out to a quick 8-3 lead in the set but Xavier were able to fight back and take the lead later on in the set. The Musketeers held the lead very late in the second set when they had a 21-18 lead over Seton Hall. The Pirates won the next six points and held a 24-21, lead before winning the set 25-22.

Xavier then went on to win the third and fourth sets Seton Hall lost both of the last two sets by a score 25-20. The Pirates lost the match despite solid performances from Thelen, Gasser, and Koska who all recorded double digit kills. Sophia Coffey also lead all players with 43 assists in the match.

Seton Hall drops to 8-17 on the season with a 3-8 conference record after the loss to Xavier. The Pirates next play on Saturday October 27th when they take on Butler on the road at 6 pm.
