The Seton Hall men’s soccer team took care of business in their Big East home opener on Saturday night, beating the Marquette Golden Eagles 2-0.

The Pirates and CJ Tibbling wasted no time getting on the board. In just the 3rd minute, Tibbling hit a rocket that found the back of the net, and he celebrated with a backflip. After several near misses in the first half, the freshman scored his second goal of the night in the 47th minute to extend the Pirates' lead.

“Today, I thought he was by and far the best player on the field,” Seton Hall head coach Andreas Lindberg said of Tibbling.

The forward now has four goals on the season in just six games.

As for Marquette, the Golden Eagles got out to a very slow start offensively, but had several opportunities as the game went on. In the 26th minute, the Golden Eagles’ Luka Prpa missed by just inches, sending a missile off the post. Just two minutes later, Prpa had another golden opportunity but Seton Hall goalie Andreas Nota made a big save.

The Pirates played tough defense along with their aggressive offense to limit any threats and complete the shutout.

With the victory, Seton Hall now improves to 4-2-1, while Marquette falls to 3-5 on the season.

Looking ahead to the rest of conference play, Coach Lindberg would lik to continue to see growth. “If we buy in, and everybody’s on the same page… regardless of if we concede a goal and stay with it, we can beat anybody on any given day.”

Next up, the Pirates will be heading to Fordham on Tuesday to begin a two-game road trip. Their match against the Rams is set for 7 P.M.
