In the Seton Hall men’s soccer Big East opener, the Pirates (2-2-1 overall) fell to the St. John’s Redstorm (4-3-0 overall), 1-0 at Belson Stadium in Queens.

The nine day rest period for the Pirates got the best of Seton Hall and its players early on, and St. Johns took advantage of it. In the 10th minute of the match, St. Johns leading team scorer Matt Forster was able to take advantage of a great assist by Brandon Knapp to give the Redstorm the early 1-0 lead.

For a majority of the first half, St. John’s was on the offensive. In the half, St. John’s had a 9-4 shot advantage, a 5-1 shots on goal, and a 4-0 corner kick advantage. However, Andres Nota played a great half. Besides the goal allowed early, Nota had four tremendous saves for the Hall.

Frustration was also getting to the Pirates in the first half. Towards the end of the first half, a scuffle between the two teams after a Pirate tripped up Forster caused Love Fredriksson and Athit Berg to receive yellow cards.

In the beginning of the second half, Seton Hall started to turn on the aggressive switch. The Hall was able to get 4 more shots, 2 more shots on goal, and 2 more corner kicks within the first 10 minutes of the second half. However, none of those shots were able to hit the back of the net, as the score remained 1-0 in that point of the half.

St. John’s took the victory on their home field. The Hall would end the match with 12 shots, 5 shots on goal, and 4 corner kicks. None was able to lead to a score.

St. John’s now leads the head-to-head matchup 23-12-3.

The Seton Hall Men’s Soccer Team will play in Sacred Heart (1-4-1 overal) on Sept. 19, as they look to get back into to the win column.
