SXSW 2016: Taking Back Tuesday Interview

Date: April 12, 2016

Katie interviewed two of the founders of Taking Back Tuesday! She asks the Emo Night creators about them about the creation of Emo Night, organizing the events, and more!

On the origins of the event:

"TJ and I were at a friend's birthday party and we say Dashboard Confessional karyoke together. That's kind of where the idea stemmed from, and the day after we were like, "we should get our friends together" and sing emo songs."... We threw our first Emo Night in December, 2014... Taking Back Tuesday came from Taking Back Sunday, we were originally gonna call it Taking Back Thursday, but the bar wasn't free, so we were like "we don't know if this is gonna do well, so let's do it on a Tuesday.""

On the future of the event:

"We're just building on it every day. We have some cool announcements coming up, we're going some cool things that we can't really talk about. Some things are coming up and we have some stuff brewing."

WSOU would like to thank the makers of Emo Night for taking the time for this interview. You can listen to Emo music on Under the Stars, Tuesday Nights from 10 p.m. until midnight!
