Slipknot Interview

Date: August 14, 2015

Rohit interviews Corey Taylor of Slipknot on The music industry, Mayhem Festival, Touring with Lamb of God and more.

Below these excerpts is a full audio version of the interview.

On metal and how it's perceived by the music industry.

"It's just proof in the pudding. Me and Randy have a theory about metal and how its received by the rest music industry. We don't get a lot of respect, we do crazy numbers and its still not enough for people to pay attention to us. For us its like, if you don't get it its not for you. Its like how Hip-Hop used to be, you were either into it or you weren't. I was way into hip hop. Now, its so watered down and weak that its for everyone. Which makes it less important for me. Metal is not for everyone, its for people who are passionate about it and there are lot of people who are passionate about as mush as they would hate to admit it, its true. The more that they try to pour their derision on it the harder we try to go for it.'

On Mayhem Fest and it's closure.

"We headlined it twice, the first year, and we went back to it a couple of years ago without Paul. its weird to see that its not coming back. Festivals like Mayhem Feat are on a timetable, they aren't built to build bands Bands have to go up and build themselves. Festivals like that are looking for instant name recognition. If you dialed back mayhem a little bit and put younger bands on it, it would grow it exponentially. I wished they looked at it from a pragmatic stand point."

On their stage presence.

"A lot of it comes down to what we play, and paying attention to our set list, because if the sets not good the show is not going to be great. For us its about representing our albums correctly but also think about the songs that fans want to hear. or songs that they might know that they wanted to hear. Right now we have two rotating sets to keep it fresh for the fans that come to multiple shows, so that for us keeps the excitement going"
