SHU Defeats LIU Post in Final Exhibition Game

Date: November 4, 2017

On Saturday afternoon at Seton Hall University, fans and students packed Walsh Gym to see the men's basketball team take on Division II LIU-Post in an exhibition match won by the Pirates in a score of 77-48.

Even though the Pioneers jumped on the board first, the Hall set the tone early on in the game for what would end in a Seton Hall victory.

Khadeen Carrington gave Pirates the lead with a layup in the first few minutes of the first half and the Hall never looked back.

The Pirates offense was fueled by dunks from Desi Rodriguez in the first half and back-to-back 3-pointers by freshman Myles Cale.

With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, Eron Gordon joined the offense and drained a corner three to give the Hall an 18-point lead. Entering the second half the Pirates' lead over LIU-Post was 22 points.

Freshman Sandro Mamukelashvili got his fair share of playing time and made the most of his start. After Carrington missed a shot from downtown, Mamukelashvili picked up Rodriguez's effort and got the tip-in for the Hall.

Seven minutes into the second half, the 6-foot-10 inch freshman hit his hand against the padding on the pole of the hoop after a foul was called on him. Mamukelashvili got right back into the game minutes later after getting offensive boards and blocking an attempted three-pointer by LIU's McLeggan.

The Pirates' freshmen shined in this exhibition match. Philip Flory saved a ball from going out of bounds and then nailed a corner three and Jordan Walker followed with a three-point shot of his own to give the Hall a 28-point lead.

With two minutes remaining in the game Flory's steal got the crowd in Walsh on their feet as they would see their Seton Hall Pirates walk away with a victory.

The Pirates' next game will be the season-opener at Prudential Center against F.D.U. at 6:30 p.m. Coverage on WSOU 89.5 FM, WSOU on iHeartRadio and wsou.net.
