Date: December 19, 2018

The Seton Hall Pirates hosted the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Wednesday night and secured the 90-76 win to improve to 8-3 on the season, having won four games in a row.

After two big victories against Kentucky and Rutgers, the Pirates jumped out to a first half lead with the first possession of the game and never looked back. Sandro Mamukelashvili hit a corner three for the first basket of the game, and it was his only three pointer of the first half. Seton Hall continued to build on its lead as it grew slowly throughout the first quarter. They held the lead for the entirety of the first half and lead by as much as 19 with 1:13 left.

The Pirates were also able to keep all their players fresh in the opening half as they put 10 different players on the court and each one of them was able to score points. Myles Powell led all scorers with 11 points in the first, and did that on 5-10 shooting from the field.

The Pirates started the second half with a 54-37 lead and used that lead to get their starters some much needed rest. Seton Hall used six different players off the bench in the second half. Despite limited minutes after the break, Mamukelashvili dominated the second half with 18 points and six rebounds. He also shot 6-8 from the field and 3-4 from behind the three point line.

One of the standout performers from the bench tonight was Shavar Reynolds, who went perfect from the field and free throw line to tally 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Reynolds saw 18 minutes of action on the court and after the game, was happy with the experience he gained. “It was a lot of fun, I think I gained a lot of confidence from this” he said.

Willard praised his defense after the game, a defense that totaled 16 steals and 6 blocks on the night, led by Reynolds, Quincy McKnight, and Myles Powell who all had 4 steals. He also praised Anthony Nelson, saying that he “did a really great job of getting everybody involved in the offense.”

Nelson finished the night 8 assists to lead all players.

The Pirates next play on Saturday at 5:30 pm when they travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins. Tune into 89.5 FM WSOU for complete coverage of the game, starting at 5:15 pm.
