Seton Hall Season Ends with 2-0 Loss on Senior Night

Date: October 27, 2017

The Seton Hall Pirates women's soccer team came into this game against Big East rival Marquette hoping to get their first win of the season but failed to do so losing 2-0.

A few early shots by Ana Zadro and Katie Landes got the Pirates moving in the first half. Unfortunately for Seton Hall, Marquette would be the first team to get on the board. A shot by Carrie Madden took a deflection off of a Pirate defender and found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles the lead in the 22nd minute of the first half. The Pirates would dominate much of first half after conceding the goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite out shooting Marquette in the first half, the Pirates trailed heading into the half.

Seton Hall came out aggressive in the second half as Landes, Lauren Hall, and Andrea Palermo all had shots within the first seven minutes of the second half. The shots from Palermo and Landes went just over the bar and forced the keeper to react. After this point, Marquette would take back control of play and eventually double their lead in the 63rd minute. A Marquette corner was swung in and deflected off a Pirate defender into the net for an own goal. This lead proved to be too much for the Pirates as despite their best efforts, they were unable to get on the score sheet and get themselves back into the game. They would eventually fall to the Golden Eagles by a score of 2-0.

After the game head coach Rick Stainton said that he was proud of his seniors and gave a genuine message of them.

"Simply, a tremendous, huge, big, thank you to them," Stainton said.

Stainton mentioned that despite their lack of success in the win column this season, they had success as a team and there are positives for the team going into next season.

"We're capable," Stainton said. "Now can we sustain what we're able to do on a more consistent basis and capitalize when we can."

The Pirates finish the 2017 season with a 0-12-5 record, and an 0-6-3 BIG EAST record. They will look to bounce back in 2018.
