Seton Hall's 2018-19 Big East Schedule Announced

Date: September 13, 2018

By Matt Ambrose

With college basketball less than two months away from tipping off, the BIG EAST Conference released the conference schedules for all 10 teams on Thursday afternoon. The Pirates’ path to a fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance is now set.

After yet another challenging non-conference slate of games, the Pirates will kick off BIG EAST play on Dec. 29 when they host St. John’s inside Prudential Center. With Shamorie Ponds returning for the Red Storm, they are bound to be a tough opponent throughout the season.

The Pirates then play four of their next five games away from Newark, traveling to Xavier, DePaul, Marquette and Providence over a two week stretch. A home matchup with Butler on Jan. 9 is sandwiched in the middle.

The Pirates’ first matchup with defending National Champion Villanova will come on Jan. 27 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. This is the second consecutive year that this matchup will be play off Villanova’s campus after the renovations to Finneran Pavilion last season.

The Pirates will not play consecutive home games until Feb. 9 and 13 when they host Creighton and Georgetown, respectively.

Defending regular season conference champion Xavier will make its first trip to Newark on Feb. 20. The Musketeers will be entering their first season with new Head Coach Travis Steele, who took over after Chris Mack took the job at Louisville.

There will be a Senior Day matchup for the ages on March 9, as the Pirates will host Villanova in the regular season finale. Last season, a shorthanded Pirates team took the Wildcats to overtime when the two sides met in Newark.

Head Coach Kevin Willard enters his ninth season at the helm of the Seton Hall program, and leads a team that has an abundance of changeover. The roster features six new faces, and even the coaching staff welcomes two new members in Tony Skinn and Duane Underwood.
