Seton Hall lands Ike Obiagu

Date: May 17, 2018

Seton Hall made a huge splash in the transfer market on Thursday, as they landed Florida State center Ike Obiagu.

As a freshman with the Seminoles, Obiagu was a defensive force. He is highly regarded for his ability to block the ball. Although he received only 364 minutes on the court last season, he was able to record a massive 71 blocks. Examining his performance from an advanced statistics perspective, this translates to a terrifying 7.98 blocks per 40 minutes. He played a huge role on a Seminoles team that made it to the Elite 8, before losing to the eventual runner-up Michigan.

Obiagu was ranked 83rd in ESPN's top 100 recruits for the class of 2017. This ranking was enough for him to garner offers from top collegiate programs such as Arizona, Virginia, and Baylor before he committed to Florida State on November 28th, 2016.

Obiagu announced the news of his transfer via Twitter, along with a photo of him in a Seton Hall jersey. "First of all, I want to thank the schools and coaches that recruited me. But I have decided to further my education and basketball opportunities at Seton Hall University."

The transfer will bring an imposing defensive presence to a team that could improve on that end of the court, especially inside the paint. Seton Hall was sixth in the conference last season in points allowed per game, as well as sixth in blocks.

Fans anxious to see the Nigeria native on the court will have to be patient. The seven foot, 240 pound center will not be eligible to play for the Pirates until the 2019-2020 season.
