The Seton Hall Pirates stopped a late comeback for the Creighton Bluejays, winning 82-70.

In Seton Hall’s first game after they put up their worst shooting performance of the season, they came out strong against Creighton. The Pirates quickly built a lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Their biggest lead being 18 points in the quarter.

A big factor for Seton Hall building this lead was their ability to shoot accurately from deep. They shot 70 percent from behind the arc. At the end of the first, the Pirates were up 32-14.

The Pirates slowed down offensively in the second quarter but held the Bluejays to just three made field goals. The Pirates were up at the half 48-27. They had good ball movement, getting a total of 16 assists in the first half. Lewis was the leading scorer for Seton Hall with 14 points.

Creighton shot only 29 percent in the first half. They went 1-12 from behind the arc, shooting eight percent. Creighton had only two assists and nine turnovers in the first half. Jaylyn Agnew played the entire 20 minutes of the first half. She shot 3-8 total and 0-3 from behind the arc. Agnew led the team in scoring with 10 points at the half and would finish the game with 22 points.

Following Seton Hall’s great first half, Creighton and Seton Hall went back and forth for most of the third quarter. They were able to hold off Creighton from getting back into the game. The Pirates went into the fourth quarter with a 17-point lead.

Creighton came into this game scoring more points in the second half then in the first. Although they’ve been able to come back when trailing big in games, they fell just short of doing so. The Bluejays got within nine points after trailing by as much as 24 points. The Bluejays did however outscore the Pirates in the second half of the game by nine points. Creighton also didn’t allow Seton Hall to make a field goal in the final four minutes of the game.

All of Seton Hall’s starters managed to score in the double digits. Alexis Lewis led the team in scoring with 18 points and had eight rebounds. Lewis played the entire 40 minutes of the game. Lauren Park-Lane also had a career high of 15 points. Seton Hall now advances to 11-7 overall, and 4-3 in conference play. While Creighton is 12-5 overall, and 4-2 in conference.
