The Seton Hall Women’s Basketball traveled to Providence, R.I., this Valentine’s Day and had another win against the Friars.

This matchup started very differently than when the last time these two teams met in South Orange. With early three pointers from senior Alexis Lewis and redshirt sophomore Alexia Allesch, the Hall came out strong but so did the Friars.

They were playing with a lot more aggressiveness and tempo staying within just a few points throughout the first quarter. Then going into the second quarter freshman Mya Jackson started it off with a three pointer and Barbara Johnson came off the bench to get an early five points. Yet the offensive dominance didn’t last long as the Friars went on their own 8-0 scoring run. The Pirates were able to hold on to their lead of 33-24 going into the half.

The second half started the Pirate’s dominate run, yet early foul trouble for both teams slowed down the momentum. The Hall then went on a 21-2 scoring run in eight minutes in the 3 rd quarter, and from then the Friars weren’t able to catch up after that.

Pirates continued their dominant run throughout the fourth quarter, transitioning fast, but slowing down to make sure they didn’t make any little mistakes. The Pirates won 71-45, now making them 9-5 in Big East play. So, while the Friars hung in it for the first half, the Hall stepped on the gas and didn’t let up until the final buzzer.

For Providence, the big change from last time, in the first half was sophomore Alyssa Geary who led the team with eight points and five rebounds at the half whereas the last time she played the Pirates she had five points and five rebounds for the entire game. She ended the game with 12 points to go along with six rebounds.

Now the biggest game changer was the home crowd for the Friars as Alumni Hall was overflowing with students from Providence schools. With the crowd volume ear piercing even over the air waves.

Seton Hall will next travel to Omaha, Nebraska as they take on the Creighton Blue Jays this Sunday, Feb.16. Mat Mlodzinski and Michael Daly will be on the call so make sure to tune in to 89.5 FM WSOU for a tip off time of 2 p.m.
