The Seton Hall women’s volleyball team lost to Xavier in straight sets this Friday in the first game of their road trip. They now have an overall record of 5-13 and a in conference record of 2-4.

The Xavier Musketeers got out to an early lead in the first set going up 4-2 almost immediately. Despite this, the Pirates would come back to tie the set four different times to keep the set close. Xavier would then go on a 5-0 run to take a commanding lead of 16-11. Despite their best efforts to get back in it, the Pirates would ultimately lose the set 25-19.

In the second set, Xavier would once again take an early lead going up 4-1. Seton Hall would then rally with an 8-2 run, to take a 9-6 lead and force a Musketeer timeout. Xavier would battle back to tie the set 13-13 and eventually take a two-set lead by winning 25-23.

Looking to avoid being swept the Pirates would lead 5-2 early in the third, and ultimately final set. A Xavier comeback would signal the beginning of the end however as they would take a 14- 9 lead and force Seton Hall head coach Alison Yaeger to call a timeout. Despite a valiant effort by the Pirates they would lose the set 25-17.

In the tough loss, the Pirates were led on the stat sheet by seniors Haylee Gasser and Maggie Cvelbar as well as freshmen Julia Wilkins and Raygan Murray. Gasser finished the game with eight kills and two blocks, giving her a season total of 196 kills and 27 total blocks.
