Seton Hall Falls to St. John's in Queens

Date: October 15, 2017

By: Tim Best

The Seton Hall women's soccer team suffered a tough road loss on Saturday, falling 1-0 to Big East rival St. John's at Belson Stadium in Queens.

Christina Bellero scored the lone goal of the match in the 68th minute. Despite the close score, the Red Storm dominated this match, outshooting the Pirates 18-5 and holding a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Seton Hall got a great chance to score in the 20th minute of play, but St. John's goalkeeper Jordan Kamp was able to make the save just before it crossed the goal line. This would turn out to be the best scoring chance for The Hall for the entire match. The Johnnies responded with several great scoring opportunities, firing not one, but two shots off the crossbar towards the end of the first half.

Senior Laura Dramis faced tremendous pressure from St. John's all night long and made seven saves, but a defensive breakdown with just over 22 minutes left in regulation allowed Bellero to score the goal that would ultimately be the game-winner.

The Pirates will be back on the road on Thursday when they face Xavier in Cincinnati for their final road match of the season. They will then return home for their final two Big East matches of the season, the first of which will take place next Sunday against Providence in the annual Mary Jennings Game at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Xavier match on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
