The Pirates fell on the road to the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday night by a score of 83-80. The Pirates now fall to 17-8 on the season and 6-6 in Big East Conference play. The Pirates lost this one despite a combined 49 points from Desi Rodriguez and Myles Powell.

Seton Hall started this one off very slowly, as they missed their first five shots of the game despite grabbing offensive rebounds after three of those first five shots. After the Hoyas jumped out to 3-0 lead the Pirates would tie the game at five. The Hoyas would take the lead again shortly after and would hold that lead for the rest of the first half. The Pirates were outplayed for almost the entire first half. Angel Delgado was on and off the court for much of the first half with a left leg injury that was reported to be a dislocated left knee cap which was suffered in the first half of the Pirates loss to Marquette on Wednesday. With Delgado hobbled and off the court, Georgetown big man Marcus Derrickson went off for 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first half, while shooting 5-6 from the field in the game's first 20 minutes. The Hoyas as a team shot 19-32 (59.4%) from the field in the first half while holding Seton Hall to only 12-35 (34.3%) in the opening half. Georgetown went into the break with a 46-33 lead over the Pirates.

The second half started with the Pirates down big and needing some big plays to come back. After Georgetown made two early baskets to increase their lead to 17, it seemed unlikely the Pirates would challenge them much in this game. Seton Hall turned it around quickly however, going on a 14-1 scoring run over the next three minutes of play to cut the Hoyas lead down to four points. The game became very back-and-forth after that with the Pirates failing to gain much more ground on Georgetown for the next nine minutes. The Hoyas even jumped out to an eight point lead with 7:19 left to play and seemed to regain control of the game.

The Pirates would again go on a big run as they scored 10 unanswered points and would take their first lead of the game with 5:36 left in the game. The comeback was fueled largely by Myles Powell and his lights out shooting in the second half. Powell scored 23 points in the second half on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, and 6-of-10 from behind the three-point line. After falling down by five points with 1:21 left in the game, the Pirates would again mount a comeback and tie the game at 80 with 31 seconds left. Georgetown seemed to ice the game when Marcus Derrickson hit a three-pointer and drew a foul with four seconds left. He failed to convert the four point play however, and gave the Pirates another chance to tie. Myles Powell got an open look but missed a three at the buzzer which would have sent the game to overtime.

Powell finished the game with 25 points and made six three pointers, while Desi Rodriguez finished the game with 24 points. Angel Delgado notched his 67th career double-double as he finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, but all of them were outshined by the huge performance from Derrickson from Georgetown. Derrickson finished the game with 22 points, 18 rebounds while shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the three-point line.

Seton Hall next plays on Wednesday February 14 as they take on Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio at 9 p.m. Tune into 89.5 FM WSOU for live coverage of the game.
