Seton Hall women’s soccer (2-6-4; 0-3) fell to #7 Georgetown at Owen T. Carroll Field Sunday in a 3-0 defeat.

The first half exemplified the Pirate’s defensive toughness as they kept the game scoreless. Cassy Harrigan had the best scoring opportunity for the Pirates but her shot missed wide. Soon after the Pirates had a setback when Eva Gonzalez was given a yellow card in the 19th minute.

The Pirates continued to play smart and tough defense however as none of the Hoya’s eleven shots reached the back of the net, making it 0-0 at halftime.

“In the first half we did a good job keeping them at bay,” Head Coach Rick Stainton said after the game. “Defensively we were very sound.”

The second half started with a different tone though, as Georgetown came out firing right away. Five minutes into the half, Sarah Trissel broke the scoreless tie by knocking a dribbler in the box through the net. Less than ten minutes later, Caitlin Farrell made it a 2-0 lead with a shot in the right side of the net.

Anna MacLean made some crafty saves at the net including stopping a breakaway attempt for Georgetown in the 62nd minute and a full extension save shortly after to keep the Pirates in the match.

“She has to come up with the big saves, especially against big teams. As a goalkeeper, we rely on her to keep them out of the net as often as possible,” Stainton said.

The Hoya’s didn’t stop however, knocking their third goal into the net with five seconds left as Casey Richards came sliding in. After the last seconds ticked off, Seton Hall officially fell to the Hoya’s 3-0 for their third straight 3-0 loss in conference play.

Seton Hall’s next match will be Thursday October 4, as the Pirates travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats at 4 p.m.
